Men in their fifties face a real threat of a heart attack due to lack of exercise. However, an electric bike can keep them healthy and slim .

In this article, I justify why and show that not every e-bike is good for this task.

"Symptoms" of middle age

Elevated cholesterol, elevated triglycerides, elevated levels of fatty acids in general, reduced body performance and physical fitness - sound familiar? Welcome to middle age, especially if you're a man in your fifties.

Moreover, you can feel your heart and you feel that it is related to your diet on the one hand, but on the other hand to the lack of physical activity. Would you like to do more for your health and spend more time outdoors, but you don't know how?

An electric bike may be the solution

Compared to an ordinary bicycle, you can use an electric bicycle not only for longer and more pleasant, recreational trips, but also to replace the car completely, even in a very large city.

What's more, research clearly shows that if you go outside immediately after a meal to exercise, the level of fats and sugar in the blood will drop quickly by several dozen percent without depositing fat in the viscera, which forms a very ugly and very unhealthy "fat tire" around belly. Below I present a graph for glucose as a function of physical activity, but similarly strong relationships are for fatty acids. Physical activity here is moderate, just like during the effort of cycling. It is also worth noting in the graph that physical activity immediately after a meal (dick gray squares) has a much more positive effect than activity postponed 30 minutes after a meal (gray circles).

Now imagine that you have an e-bike that gives you pure riding pleasure. You no longer have any excuse to stay healthy and look good.

However, will any electric bike do a good job of this task?

I don't think so, because I've ridden a lot of different e-bikes and in my experience, the more power assist a bike has, the less you use your own muscles.

I myself am close to fifty, and despite riding an e-bike, I often felt my heartbeat. So I figured I should permanently reduce the assist on my bike well below 25km/h to force my body to work harder while riding. Interestingly, I feel the positive effects of this and I am not so afraid of any health problem with the heart.

Summary

So, are we left with an unpleasant alternative, either an electric bike or health and beauty? No, the solution is to permanently limit the assistance on the e-bike. Unfortunately, very few e-bikes have something like this - GO ELECTRIC Tornado is one of the exceptions.
